        John "Jack" Wilkinson

"I’m contacting you in regards to my father who was stationed at Moron ab, Spain from 1962 to 1965 or 66. He was an ac2? In weather squadron but according to his records, he played baseball while he was there? He passed away in Feb 2016. His name was John “Jack” Wilkinson. Apparently, my father had a son with a Spanish woman while he was there. He told us that when he wanted to marry her, she would only marry him if he brought her whole family to the states. So he left them there. I’m going to assume that the story was somewhat true because my father was next stationed in Korea and married my Korean mother when she got pregnant with my sister in 1968. I believe I was about 10 years old when my parents told us about our brother. I think the lady’s name was Maria (probably half of Spain) and the boy might have been named Juan Carlos. I am searching for the information he gave me about ten years ago but can’t seem to locate it. Is there any way you could help me? Maybe someone knew him and may remember the lady or the boy? Thanks for the site about Moron. It’s interesting to read about that part of my father’s life."

Mateo passed away in July 2018

Can anyone who spent much time with my Dad in Spain tell me about what he was like back then or some of the things he did? It would be so appreciated.

  1. Looking to go back “home” to where I was born in Seville and found this page doing research.
My father was a Sergeant stationed in San Pablo, maybe even Moron from at least 68 to 73.
His Name was Robert L. Stoeckel and I believe he worked the movie theatre there and was part of the medic team. Had a tall Dutch red headed wife names Tony (Antonia) and 4 other kids.
Not sure if anyone gets on this site any longer but if someone does remember him it would be nice.

  2. Hello!
My grandfather is Richard W. Thomson. I was intrigued and searching online about his history in the US Air Force based on what he has told me and I found this website, which is excellent! I’m currently in the process of informing him about this website to see if he could possibly join and become a member. I’m sure he’d love that. We all still love hearing his stories and memories of his days stationed at Torrejón.

  3. My name is Leslie (Shorty) Davis. I was stationed at both Moron Air Base and San Pablo Air Base from approximately June 1960 to September 1964. I was both in security and Base Police. I would love to hear from anyone that was there during that time. I would also love to hear about any reunion planned for the year 2020. I would love to attend if possible. I will also attempt to send in some pictures that I may find from that time. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I would also like to become a member of your group if possible. Thank you for your attention in this matter.

    • My Father is Richard Allen Shaffer and he was from Punxsutawney, PA. We are fortunate he and our Mother Judy are still with us today. Dad was an Airman 1st Class working in Finance stationed at Moron from ’62-’66. The 3 of us were born at the hospital at San Pablo Air Base where our Mother taught Kindergarten and 1st grade. I asked if he recognized any of these names but he did not. If you knew anyone in Finance I would appreciate hearing some names to share with Mom and Dad.

I will be visiting Seville for the first time in January and wonder if the San Pablo base can be accessed. I can see it is abandoned from Google maps so I suspect the answer is no. I’m excited for this trip given how fondly our parents speak of their time living in Spain. Thank you

  4. Hello. My name is Lee Pinder, 3973rd C-Flight Feb 1960-June 1963.

  5. To the WebMaster of this page: Need to change date of death and last name spelling.
My Dad, CWO4 Clifton M. Shealy (not Shealey). Date of death is 2006, not 2003.

Thank you! Great WebPages and photos…brings back lots of memories from our time there 61-65.

If you are the daughter of the A2C Salas that I worked with for a short time on San Pablo Air Base, Sevilla, Spain, I may be able to give you a little information but not much.

  7. I believe that there is a patch 0f the 3973 CDF If so how does one get one? I served in that squadron from June 1958 to June 1961.I would be honored to display it on my B15 jacket .As you know we were assigned at various posts I mostly was in the ADT room.would love to have that patch
My address is 5 Hague Close
    Williamsburg, VA 23185

    • Peter, there is indeed a patch for the 3973rd CDS. You would probably have to search the internet to find one though. Ebay would be a good place to start.
